Book Review - My Life Next Door

"The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, numerous, messy, affectionate. And every day from her balcony perch, seventeen-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs the trellis to sit by her and changes everything."

Ah I had wanted to read this book for the longest time and it wasn't until this summer that I finally bought it and had a read.  When I bought it, it was so sunny and hot outside and I knew I wanted something that was summery and light to read so I thought I'd give this a go to be my sunbathing companion and I'm so glad I did as I just loved it so much.

The book is perfect, it really does live up to all the hype that I've read about it over the years and I honestly do think it has maybe the most perfect leading guy that has ever been in any book, right? Jase is the dream...

The story centers on Samantha and her 'perfect' family and their next door neighbours 'The Garretts' who are the exact opposite.  Even though they have been neighbours for a long time Samantha has never had any contact with them, believing her mothers words that they are bad news but it hadn't stopped Samantha from trying to get a glimpse of what life is really like on the other side of the fence.  Then one day Samantha and Jase, one of the boys from next door, happen to meet and the story really takes off from there.

We follow Samantha and Jase as they both have real life changing summers that  puts them at a cross roads of their lives.  The book also focuses on if two people who are from such different worlds really can ever truly be together and let go of all their preconceived ideas and judgements about each other.  I really loved that aspect of the story and I think it added real depth to the story and probably something that a lot of people can relate to as well.

I can't rave about this book enough, it was even better than I had imagined and to be honest at the start I was like 'ah I totally can guess where this story is going' but do you know what, it totally took me by surprised how the story developed and I wasn't prepared for it being such an amazing read.

If you love books from people like Morgan Matson and Rainbow Rowell then this is one that you have to pick up or put on your Christmas list, such a genuinely great book and I now have every other title by the author on my must-read list as I totally fell in love with her writing style, so lovely!

You can buy the book from wordery and get free delivery on your orders or buy it from amazon too.
